Aasiya Andrabi Tortured In Jail: World Silence Over India Oppression Of Kashmiris
6 August 2009
In occupied Kashmir, the Chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Aasiya Andrabi has said that she was tortured in Jammu Jail. Aasiya Andrabi was talking to media men in the premises of High Court in Srinagar where she was produced before the court. She said, “I was kept with 40 criminals in a very congested room and was not allowed to pray inside the room”, adding even when she tried to recite Quran, the criminals present in the cell did not allow her to do it by raising their voice. Her counsel told the court that his client was not feeling well, as she has been subjected to torture in jail. On this occasion, Aasiya submitted, “I was tortured and was not being allowed to pray in the jail.” After hearing the arguments of defence and prosecution, the court directed the authorities to get Asiya examined by an expert doctor at Soura Hospital. The court also directed the authorities to shift her to Srinagar Central Jail. The Chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat was arrested from Soura on June 10, 2009. On June 11, PSA was invoked against her and she was sent to Amphala Jail in Jammu. » World urged to help release Hurriyet leaders in IHK the All Parties Hurriyet Conference has appealed to the international community to impress upon India to release all illegally detained Kashmiri Hurriyet leaders and activists. The APHC spokesman in a statement in Srinagar said that the detainees were being deprived of basic human necessities including medical care. The statement pointed out that senior Hurriyet leader, Shabbir Ahmed Shah had to undergo a surgery as advised by doctors but the authorities were not shifting him to any hospital. Nayeem Ahmed Khan, the statement added, was not produced before the court in Srinagar on the fixed day of hearing. Hundreds of people, raising anti-India and pro-liberation slogans, took to the streets in Achabal area of southern Kashmir against the arrest of innocent youth by Indian troops. The troops resorted to heavy lathi charge and excessive teargas shelling, injuring several of the protesters. An Indian trooper was killed when the barrel of his rifle burst during a practice session at Pallanwalla firing range in Akhnoor. Bullet-riddled body of a trooper was recovered from Reshi Nagri Shopian while beheaded body of a civilian was found from Daddar Morh in Rajouri. A civilian who sustained injuries in grenade explosion at Rambagh in Srinagar succumbed in a local hospital. » No change in ground situation in IHK: APHC The All parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) has said that there is no change in the ground situation in occupied Kashmir even after the Indo-Pak joint statement at Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt on the resumption of talks to resolve all outstanding issues. The APHC spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said, though the agreement between leaders of Pakistan and India is being looked upon as a significant confidence building measure at diplomatic level, it has no impact on the ground situation in Kashmir, as the stooge government is employing every undemocratic and apolitical tactic to foil any expected positive change in the territory. The spokesman pointed out that apathy of the jail authorities to shift ailing senior APHC leader, Shabbir Ahmad Shah to any hospital for surgery and present another leader, Nayeem Ahmad Khan in the court on the hearing dates was a part of this tactic. He maintained that authorities were keeping the pro-movement Kashmiri intellectuals and convicted criminals together in jails. He felicitated Shabir Ahmad Bukhari, a prisoner in Srinagar Central Jail, on passing KAS preliminary examination and hailed Dr Ashiq Hussain Faktoo who completed his PHD in the jail only. Meanwhile, the APHC organized a special prayer meeting for the recovery of Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmad Khan and other incarcerated pro-movement leaders and activists. »
