Hamas Open To Peace Talks With Any Country: Warnings Against Normalization With Israel
28 July 2009
GAZA, (PIC)-- Hamas welcomed opening channels of communications with any country in the world, except the Zionist entity, but rejected the notion of classifying its leaders as moderates and extremists stressing that the movement has a Shura council and institutions on which it depends for taking decisions. "There are no moderates and extremists in Hamas, we reject such a classification, as we are a movement that takes its decisions through consultative bodies and institutions. It is a Palestinian national liberation movement which aims to defend the Palestinian people and their usurped rights so that the people can live in Freedom and security like the rest of people," Fawzi Barhoum, the Hamas spokesman told PIC on Sunday. Barhoum was responding to calls from the Foreign Affairs Committee on the British government to "consider ways of engaging politically with moderate elements within Hamas as a way of encouraging it to meet the three Quartet principles," in its report on Saturday. Barhoum stressed that Hamas practices legitimate resistance against Zionist occupation in the same manner Churchill defended Britain and Europe against Nazi occupation, a role for which he is respected throughout Europe. He expressed hope that the British government would heed the call of the committee and open channels of communication with the movement on the basis of respecting the usurped rights of the Palestinian people and that such rights should be restored to them Warnings Against Deceptive Slogans Promoting Normalization With Israel The Palestinian Non-Governmental Organization Network (PNGO) has warned of a number of Palestinian societies that have suspicious missions and are promoting normalization of ties with the Israeli occupation using deceptive slogans. In a statement it issued on Sunday in this regard, the network expressed anger over the close cooperation and coordination between those "misled" societies and their Israeli counterparts, stressing that those societies, by dealing with Israeli societies, had crossed the red lines of the prohibited Palestinian limits. "We want to say it clear and sound that normalization with the Israeli enemy is a grave violation against the Palestinian land and the Palestinian people, especially at a time the USA, EU, and many countries in the world were pressuring the Israeli occupation to permanently freeze settlement activities in the West Bank, and at a time the Palestinian people gain more support around the world", The PNGO's statement underlined. The network plainly accused those suspicious Palestinian groups of holding joint projects with Israeli societies around the world with the aim to deceive the world's people that everything was OK between the Israeli occupation an the Palestinian people. According to the PNGO, such coordination between those groups would send the wrong signal to the Arab world that normalizing ties with Israel was something normal and at hand. In this regard, the network called on international donors and financiers of such projects to stop those internationally forbidden activities, reminding them that those projects are being carried out on Palestinian lands occupied by Israel.
