The Palestinian People Have Options To Confront The Israeli Siege: Netanyahu's Manipulations
9 July 2009
Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said Tuesday that the Palestinian people have options to confront the Israeli siege, reiterating his Movement’s rejection of any link between the issue of reconstruction in Gaza and other files. These comments were made during a sit-in held outside the UNRWA headquarters in which hundreds of Gaza children carried banners condemning the blockade and demanding the opening of crossings. Spokesman Abu Zuhri urged the Arab regimes to assume their responsibilities and break the siege, saying if there was an Arab will, the blockade could be broken. "The blockade is aimed at punishing the Palestinian people and breaking their will and there are some delusional people who believe that Hamas could make concessions or recognize the Zionist entity and the international quartet’s terms, but we say to them, you are mistaken; save your time and effort because all attempts failed and will fail thanks to the steadfastness of our people", the spokesman highlighted. Barghouthi warns against Netanyahu's manipulations MP Mustafa Al-Barghouthi, the secretary general of the national initiative party, has condemned Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu's call on the Palestinians to recognize Israel as a "Jewish" state, saying that it indicates the absence of an Israeli peace partner. Barghouthi in a press statement on Monday added that Netanyahu offers in return an impotent autonomy for the Palestinians with no sovereignty. Netanyahu's endorsement of the Jewish nature of Israel entailed the dismissal of the historic rights of the Palestinian people, in addition to deciding before hand the negotiation results by saying no to Palestinian refugees' right to return, by refusing to negotiate over Jerusalem and by rejecting to freeze settlement building and confiscation of Palestinian land, Barghouthi explained. He opined that Netanyahu was interested in complete normalization of ties with Arabs without ending occupation or establishing a Palestinian state, while retaining vast Palestinian areas and keeping control over the airspace, crossings and borders. The MP warned that Netanyahu's deceptions and racist policies should be exposed, advocating a unified Palestinian and Arab position to impose penalties on Israel. Hamas: No change in list of prisoners to be freed in return for Shalit Hamas on Wednesday denied press reports that it was pondering a change in the list of Palestinian prisoners names tabled with the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) to be freed in return for the release of captured soldier Gilad Shalit. Osama Al-Muzzaini, who is in charge of Shalit's file in the Hamas Movement, told Safanews that the reports were "baseless". He explained that Hamas does not wish to introduce any changes in the list of names of those prisoners, adding that any such change would render the exchange deal worthless. The Hamas official said that his Movement wants the release of Palestinians serving high sentences. Muzzaini said that Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak's assurances to Israeli president Shimon Peres that Shalit was alive and well were mere "wishes and public relations". He underlined that none knows whether Shalit was alive or dead following the latest Israeli war on Gaza except those closely linked to his whereabouts. A political analyst in the Israeli television had expected his government to deliver an amended list of prisoners to be freed in exchange for Shalit.
