Philippino War Planes Destroy Mosque In Maguindanao As Fighting Continue In Moro
8 June 2009
A mosque in Barangay Muti, Guindulungan, Maguindanao was destroyed by the powerful bombs unleashed from the air strikes of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) yesterday Friday. Reports gathered from displaced civilians from the area said the Mosque was hit by 200lbs international bomb unleashed from the indiscriminate air assaults by the AFP, which started at around 10am. “A powerful bomb hit the Mosque in Muti near the area of clashes between AFP and MILF forces. The Mosque was destroyed, astaghfirullah,” said SMS report received by Luwaran yesterday afternoon. Mosque is the center of worships and unity in faith of all the Muslims the world over. Attacked on this Mosque in Muti was an offensive against all Muslims, Muslim clergy said. AFP used bomber and fighters planes, and helicopter gunships for their air offensives, even as artillery and ground attacks were simultaneously conducted by the government forces. Friday congregational prayers were not performed by the thousands Muslims in several contiguous villages within the area of AFP ferocious air, artillery and ground attacks. “We were not able to pray because the military operations started hours before the Friday Jummah (congregational) prayer,” said text report, adding that civilians had rush to safety before they could be put at the crossfire. Actual fierce gun battle between MILF freedom fighters and government aggressive army flared up starting a quarter passed 12 noon to 2:30pm. But artillery strikes continued even after the ground encounter had ceased momentarily. Four (4) were wounded on the MILF fighters. However, MILF commander said big casualties were inflicted on the side of the government forces due to their guerilla type counter-offensives. “We were firing whenever we get close to our enemies and maneuvered after inflicting casualties to the enemies. We sneaked out and took another advantage positions and hit the enemies again off guarded,” the commander said. Yesterday’s clashes were the second day of the AFP operations against the MILF forces at Muti. In these clashes, nine MILF fighters were slightly wounded. On the side of the government, the estimated casualties, both killed and wounded numbered to 40 men. Number of displaced civilians continues to swell but where are the relief assistance from the government agencies. Nothing much can be expected as government is imposing food blockade in parallel lines with its military offensives. MILF forces believe that the AFP operation in the area is directed to attack MILF Camps Omar and Badre which are under 104th and 106th Base Commands of Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF) – MILF. “The AFP operations that had been going since last year is not really targeting the 105th, 102nd and 103rd Base Commands only but the entire MILF forces, adding that the government is engaged in an all-out war against the MILF being done by phase and pieces,” BIAF top commander told Luwaran. For the more than nine months of operations, the AFP had never defeated the 105th and 102nd Base Commands despite using all its might and resources. Therefore, it would take years of brutal wars but still the government could not defeat the Bangsamoro struggle for political freedom and right to self determination under realm of international laws. Government conducted miltary actions days after abandoning the already initialed government - MILF Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain (MOA-AD) which was supposedly to finally signed in Malaysia last August 5, 2008 if not for the restraining order issued by Philippine Supreme Court.
