26 May 2009 In occupied Kashmir, the APHC
Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and senior Kashmiri
Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani have welcomed the OIC
Secretary General, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu’s statement,
which described the situation in Jammu and Kashmir
tense due to the non-implementation of the relevant UN
resolutions. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement issued
in Srinagar urged the OIC to send a team to occupied
Kashmir to assess the ground situation.
He said that the OIC could raise the issue of Kashmir
in international forums and could play an important
role in its resolution.
Syed Ali Gilani, describing the assertion as
realistic, said that India was occupying the Jammu and
Kashmir with its military might and was using every
method to suppress the ongoing liberation struggle.
The JKLF Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik and the
Executive Director of Kashmir Centre London, Professor
Nazir Ahmed Shawl in their statements thanked the OIC
Secretary General for raising his voice in favour of
the Kashmiris.
The APHC spokesman giving details about the human
rights violations by Indian troops while addressing a
press conference in Srinagar, today, appealed to the
world human rights bodies to send their fact-finding
missions to Jammu and Kashmir. »
Shawl thanks OIC for voicing in
Favour of Kashmiris
Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl, the Executive Director of
Kashmir Centre London, has thanked the Organisation of
Islamic Conference for raising a voice in favour of
the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl in a statement issued in
London said that it was necessary for the OIC to reach
out to the government of India requesting it to
provide a greater political space to people of Jammu
and Kashmir, revoke all draconian laws and release all
political prisoners.
He said that the OIC could help the people of Kashmir
restore their movement to freely travel in all parts
of the territory. It could also help in the resumption
of the India and Pakistan engagement, he added, adding
that the OIC’s voice was required to support the
inclusion of Kashmiris in the engagement.
Professor Shawl appealed to the OIC countries to help
India and Pakistan in building an atmosphere of trust,
friendship and reconciliation. He requested the
Organisation to play a proactive role towards the
achievement of peace, harmony, welfare, development
and freedom in the occupied territory. »
