23 May 2009 Forces of the Moro Islamic Liberation
Front (MILF) and Government of the Republic of the
Philippines (GRP) figured in a brief firefight last
May 20, 2009 at Barangay Kablacan, Maasim, Saranggani
Province.
Reports received by Luwaran.Net/Com said a platoon
size army under 73rd Infantry Battalion, Philippine
Army were moving, at around 11am, toward the first
perimeter defense line of Camp Khalid Bin Walid of the
107th Base Command of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed
Forces (BIAF) - MILF forces at Sitio Gansidan,
Kablacan that triggered the firefight.
Skirmishes flared up for almost 30 minutes. One
wounded in action was inflicted on MILF fighters while
undetermined number of casualties on the side of the
AFP troops, report said.
Tension in the area was heightening yesterday as AFP
troops were reportedly advancing inward, thus inciting
situation for more fierce encounters in the offing.
The disposition and movements of government forces of
the in the province are clear manifestation that the
AFP is indeed targeting the entire forces of the MILF
and not just the three base commands of the BIAF –MILF
as being publicly pronounced by the government.
