|
September 19, 2008 In occupied Kashmir,
hundreds of Kashmiri devotees offered
congregational prayers at the historic Aali
Masjid in Srinagar after nearly 61 years.
Awami Action Committee organized special
prayers in the Mosque on the death anniversary
of late Mirwaiz Muhammad Yousuf Shah, who used
to lead the prayers till he was exiled in
1947. From 1963 to 1975, prayers were offered
on Eids led by Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq.
Aali Masjid is being renovated through the
Tourism department in collaboration with
Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural
Heritage (INTACH). Aali Masjid was presenting
a festive look after decades and Kashmiri men
and women were praying with enthusiasm under
the lofty Chinars.
The Mosque was constructed by Kashmiri ruler,
Sultan Hassan Shah, in 15th century. It got
burnt down during Afghan rule in 18th century
before being rebuilt by the Afghan governor
Abdullah Khan. The Masjid served as a major
platform for the freedom struggle during the
domineering Dogra rule in early 20th century.
The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet
Conference (APHC), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq
inaugurated Aali Masjid at Eidgah after its
renovation. The Hurriyet leaders, Maulana
Abbas Ansari, Zaffar Akbar Butt, Hakeem Abdul
Rashid, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash were also
present on the occasion.
Complete strike observed in
occupied Kashmir
Meanwhile, anti-India demonstrations, marked
with complete strike, were held at several
places in the Kashmir Valley, today, call for
which was given by the Jammu and Kashmir
Coordination Committee.
Thousands of people led by the Chairman of
Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad
Yasin Malik staged a peaceful pro-liberation
protest at Badshah Chowk in Srinagar.
Addressing the protestors on the occasion
Muhammad Yasin Malik urged India to adopt a
realistic approach and come forward to resolve
the Kashmir dispute in accordance with
Kashmiris’ aspirations. People on the occasion
raised high-pitched anti-India and
pro-liberation slogans. A separate
demonstration was subjected to heavy lathi
charge and excessive tear-gassing by Indian
troops when the protesters tried to march from
Jamia Masjid to Lal Chowk.
Kashmir Bar Association took out a peaceful
march and staged a sit-in at Lal Chowk.
Demonstrations were also held in Sopore,
Bandipora, Chadoora, Shopian, Tral and
Islamabad areas.
On the other hand, senior leaders of the All
Parties Hurriyet Conference, Maulana Abbas
Ansari and Syed Agha Hassan Al-Moosvi while
addressing public gatherings at Sajadabad and
Budgam maintained that India would not succeed
in intimidating Kashmiris to submission by
resorting to brute force.
Two Hurriyet leaders, Muhammad Salim Nannaji
and Farooq ahmed Dar were arrested when they
reached from New Delhi to Srinagar, today.
Senior Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali
Gilani remained under house arrest for the
fourth consecutive day, today.
Meanwhile, rich tributes were paid to the
martyred senior leader of the All Parties
